Congo-Brazzaville's President Denis Sassou Nguesso was sworn in again on Thursday at a ceremony attended by 10 African heads of state.

The March 15 election gave President Sassou Nguesso a new five-year term, winning nearly 95% of the vote according to official results.

On Thursday, waving flags in the national colours of green, yellow and red, tens of thousands of people crowded into a stadium in the capital Brazzaville to watch the inauguration ceremony.

"I swear to respect and to ensure respect for the constitution, to guarantee peace and justice for all," Sassou Nguesso, dressed in a dark suit with a sash, said as he took the oath of office.

'President of all Congolese'

"The presidential election is over. I am the president of all Congolese people without exception," he added.

President Sassou Nguesso, 82, first led Congo-Brazzaville under a one-party system from 1979 to 1992 before losing the country's first multi-party elections. He returned to power in 1997 after a civil war, and has since been re-elected five times.

According to Congo-Brazzaville's constitution, this is Sassou Nguesso's last presidential term, ending in 2031.
