Guinea has disbanded 40 political parties for failing to meet legal obligations, a decree broadcast on national television on Friday evening stated.
Among the parties affected are several major political groups, including the Union des Forces Democratiques de Guinee (UFDG) led by former Prime Minister Cellou Dalein Diallo, the Rassemblement du Peuple de Guinee - Arc-en-ciel (RPG Arc-en-ciel) founded by former President Alpha Conde, and the Union des Forces Republicaines (UFR) headed by former Prime Minister Sidya Toure.
The decree, issued by the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, said the dissolution takes effect immediately.

Consequences
According to the text, the measure results in the “immediate loss of legal personality and juridical status” for the affected parties.
“As a consequence, all political activities conducted in the name of these parties are prohibited across the national territory as well as in diplomatic missions,” the decree said.
The decision also includes administrative measures affecting the assets and infrastructure of the dissolved organizations.
Party headquarters and branches will be sealed, with assets sequestered until a liquidator distributes the property.
The move comes as Guinea prepares for legislative and municipal elections scheduled for May 24, 2026.
