Turkish non-governmental organisation, Solidarity and Assistance Foundation Uganda (SENA), on Friday inaugurated a state-of-the-art mosque at SENA High School, in Wamala area near the capital, Kampala.

The official opening ceremony was attended by Türkiye's religious attaché in Uganda, Ramazan Pehlevanoglu, Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) deputy mufti Hafidh Bukenya, UMSC deputy Secretary general Muhammad Aluma and Islamic University In Uganda (IUIU) don Saim Celik among others.

SENA chairman Caner Akgun said the mosque will serve the surrounding community as well as students of SENA High School, which is slated to open its doors to learners in February next year.

Caner added that both the school and the mosque are a gift to Ugandans from the Turkish people.

“The mosque is part of the school project which has been established to compliment Uganda’s economy and education sector. The teachers recruited in the school are all Ugandans with professional teaching qualifications, we also have support staff nearly all of them Ugandans, therefore, besides providing educational needs, we are also creating employment for Ugandans,” he said.

Türkiye's religious attaché Ramazan Pehlivanoğlu commended SENA for the contribution to Uganda’s theological and educational development.

The deputy Mufti, Dr Harun Bukenya, urged Muslims in the community to utilise the mosque to strengthen their faith and enrich their Islamic knowledge.
