Türkiye has strongly condemned Israel's recognition of Somaliland as an independent state.

On Friday, the Republic of Türkiye's Directorate of Communications termed Tel Aviv's act "a clear violation of international law" and an "interference in Somalia's internal affairs."

"This step targets Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and further renders the fragile balances in the (Horn of Africa) region more vulnerable," Burhanettin Duran, the Turkish Head of Communications, said.

"This stance is one of the irresponsible actions of the (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu government, which has a dark record marked by genocide and occupation, and which undermines efforts for peace and stability in the region," Communications Head, Burhanettin Duran, added in an official statement.

Global condemnation

Reaffirming Türkiye's support for Somalia's sovereignty, the Turkish Head of Communications said: "I believe the international community should take a unified stance against such initiatives that would escalate tensions and increase security risks in the Horn of Africa."

On Friday, Israeli drew global condemnation, including from the African Union (AU), Arab League, and the Palestinian Authority, for recognising Somaliland, a region in Somalia's north which is part of the Federal Republic of Somalia's territory.

For its part, Somalia strongly rejected Israel's provocation, calling Tel Aviv's action a violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
