FIFA’s Ethics Committee has opened formal proceedings against three senior officials of the Congolese Football Association (FECOFOOT), Congo-Brazzaville, over suspected financial misconduct involving funds allocated by the global football body.

Those under investigation include FECOFOOT president Jean Guy Mayolas, who also serves on FIFA’s Media and Communications Committee, the association’s general secretary Wantete Badji, and finance director Raoul Kanda.

In a statement, FIFA says the review process initiated by FIFA uncovered documentation pointing to “potential financial irregularities and inconsistencies relating to the use of FIFA‑allocated funds". Based on the findings, a “prima facie case to open proceedings for potential breaches of the FIFA Code of Ethics" was initiated.

The alleged conduct under review could constitute multiple breaches, “including articles 29 (Misappropriation and misuse of funds), 25 (Forgery and falsification), 20 (Conflicts of interest) and 21 (Offering and accepting gifts and other benefits),” the statement adds.

FIFA has, in recent years, tightened oversight mechanisms to ensure accountability and transparency in the use of its financial support to member associations.

According to FIFA rules, sanctions could be issued if violations are established.

FIFA says it remains committed to “ensuring the responsible use of its funds worldwide and safeguarding the integrity of football administration".
