The presidential party in Gabon got slightly more than a third of seats in parliament on Saturday, results showed, as the central African country held a second round of legislative elections.

The election in the oil-rich country concludes a political transition after an August 2023 coup ended 55 years of the Bongo family rule.

Official results showed President Brice Oligui Nguema's Democratic Union of Builders (UDB) getting 55 seats in the 145-seat national assembly.

The Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG) of former President Ali Bongo Ondimba, which supports Nguema, got three seats.

'Irregularities' caused legislative election postponement: govt

Nguema's party also won a large majority of local and municipal councillor posts during the election's first round, held on September 27.

The first round was marked by "major irregularities," according to the interior ministry, which led the vote to be postponed in some places.
