In a powerful address at the Fifth Türkiye-Africa Business and Economic Forum on Thursday, Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan emphasised the critical role of women in shaping a new global narrative amid ongoing challenges such as wars, genocides, climate change, and poverty.

"Indeed, the world needs a new story," First Lady Emine Erdogan said.

"I believe this story will be written by the pen of women. Each day, in different corners of the world, a woman is turning an amazing idea into reality. Just like snowdrops blossoming in snow, these ideas instill hope for humanity even under the harshest circumstances."

Highlighting women's natural leadership qualities, she noted that women not only produce solutions to global problems but also nurture a culture of peace. "Generations are raised in women's hands and the future is shaped by these very generations. When women participate in economic life, they foster not only themselves but also their societies."

Synergy between Türkiye and Africa

First Lady Emine Erdogan further underlined the synergy between Türkiye and Africa, describing the two regions as key players in the global economy. "When women's sensitivity is combined with leadership, holistic solutions emerge that conserve both humanity and the environment. There is a need for women's hand in all global, environmental, and humanitarian crises," she said, stressing the importance of women's central role in Türkiye-Africa relations.

Drawing from her extensive experience, the First Lady recalled her visits to 30 African countries since the launch of Türkiye's African initiative in 2005. "On numerous occasions, I witnessed African women's inspiring power, wisdom, and industriousness, as well as their contributions to their communities. From day one, I have had a strong desire for cooperation with these strong women."

She expressed optimism about the future, citing the young populations and dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystems of both regions. "Türkiye and Africa are two regions that stand out in the global economy. I believe women, if adequately supported, will make our countries the shining stars of the 21st century."

Following the forum, First Lady Emine Erdogan shared on social media her reflections on the "Women's Leadership and Entrepreneurship Dialogue" panel, which focused on enhancing women's economic contributions. "The ever-deepening cooperation between Türkiye and African nations is moving towards a more inclusive, productive and hopeful future under women’s leadership."

'Africa holds special place in my heart': First Lady Emine Erdogan

She also reaffirmed her personal connection to Africa, stating, "Africa has always held a special place in my heart. Every woman I met during my visits revealed a different face of perseverance, faith, and solidarity."

Highlighting tangible initiatives, she mentioned the Africa Handicrafts Market and Cultural House Association, established to support African women's economic participation. "I trust this esteemed forum will facilitate the development of concrete and sustainable solutions to the challenges faced by women in their entrepreneurial endeavours."

The forum continues to serve as a platform to strengthen Türkiye-Africa ties with a focus on empowering women as pivotal agents of change and development.
