The Turkish Red Crescent distributed food parcels to approximately 1,200 families displaced by conflict in the eastern Sudanese city of Port Sudan.
Head of the Turkish Red Crescent Sudan Delegation, Cesur Dervişoğlu, told an AA correspondent that “humanitarian aid activities continue uninterrupted under the Turkish Red Crescent Sudan Humanitarian Aid Operation.”
Dervişoğlu informed that approximately 1,200 food parcels were distributed to displaced and vulnerable families at the Al-Sanaiye Camp in Port Sudan.
The Turkish Red Crescent is the largest humanitarian organisation in Türkiye, with an international network to help nations in need.
Difficult economic conditions
The charity organisation provides regular support in different fields to the Sudanese people as they face challenging economic conditions due to conflict.
Sudan has been gripped by intense fighting between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 15, 2023, a conflict that has triggered what aid agencies describe as the world’s largest displacement crisis and caused widespread damage to infrastructure, the economy, education, and health services.
The Turkish Red Crescent’s Sudan team, in a statement last December, said Türkiye will continue to deliver large-scale assistance, “but we also believe that the international community should continue to increase its support for Sudan.”
The aid agency, ahead of Ramadan last year, delivered humanitarian aid to over 3 million people in 18 countries across Africa, Asia, the Balkans, and the Middle East.
