Egypt's petroleum minister said on Tuesday that his country was able to transport Saudi oil to the Mediterranean, as tankers remained blocked in the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf oil infrastructure came under attack.
Egypt imports crude from Aramco via the Saudi port of Yanbu, "which enables us not just to provide for Egypt, but to receive crude from Saudi Arabia, and transfer it through Egypt's Sumed port and pipeline to the Mediterranean," Minister Karim Badawi said in a cabinet presser.
The Sumed pipeline connects the Red Sea at Ain Sokhna, just south of the Suez Canal, with the Mediterranean west of Alexandria.
Iran has been under a joint US-Israeli bombardment since February 28, resulting in the deaths of more than 40 senior Iranian government officials, including the country's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Deadly strikes
More than 600 civilians have also been killed in the attacks, which triggered a retaliation by Iran.
The US had accused the government of Khamenei of oppressing citizens, and building nuclear weapons, allegations that Iran rejected.
