Felix Tshisekedi, the president of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has said that Rwanda is "violating its commitments" to the Washington Accord, which both Kinshasa and Kigali signed in the United States last Thursday.

President Donald Trump witnessed the signing of the US-brokered peace deal, which is aimed at ending more than three decades of conflict in eastern DRC.

Both DRC and Rwanda expressed their willingness to adhere to the terms of the agreement, including ceasing armed fighting in the troubled eastern DRC, and implementing the disarmament of non-state forces, primarily the M23 rebel group.

On Monday, DRC's President Tshisekedi said it was "clear that Rwanda is already violating its commitments" to the Washington Accord.

Rwanda terms DRC allegations 'ridiculous'

Tshisekedi made the remarks in an address delivered from parliament to the nation, referring to alleged attacks by Rwandan forces in several locations in South Kivu province in recent days.

Rwanda, however, denies targeting Congolese forces in eastern DRC, saying that the DRC government's claims are "ridiculous."

Kinshasa has repeatedly accused Kigali of backing M23 rebel group, but President Paul Kagame's administration rejects the allegations.
