In a joint investigation conducted by MIT, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and the Ankara Counter-Terrorism Branch Directorate's "special teams", simultaneous operations were carried out in four provinces, and seven people, including the head of the espionage network, were arrested.
Two other members of the network were already in prison for other crimes. The seven individuals who were referred to the judicial authorities for trial on espionage charges.
Strategic Operation
The head and the individuals within the espionage network were collecting sensitive information on civil society organisations, associations, ethnic groups, and public officials in Türkiye and transmitting it to foreign intelligence services.
The suspicious activities of the individuals within the network attracted MIT's attention.
A comprehensive intelligence operation was launched. The organisation's activities were systematically monitored through physical surveillance, cyber monitoring, and wiretapping.
Over time, the network's communication lines with foreign services, reporting methods, payment mechanisms, and mission instructions were fully recorded.
The network continued its espionage activities for a long time, believing its operations were secret and under control.
As a result of MIT's (Turkish National Intelligence Agency) long-term intelligence work, the entire organisational structure of the network, which was conducting espionage activities against Türkiye, was deciphered.
This operation not only revealed the identities of the network members but also uncovered the network structure, communication protocols, and strategic targets of foreign intelligence services in Türkiye.
With the information obtained during the operation, MIT ensured the protection of national security and provided a detailed analysis of the methods used by foreign services.
