Kampala, Uganda — Trade between Uganda and Türkiye more than doubled in 2025, underscoring the rapidly expanding economic partnership between the two countries as Turkish exporters met with the Ugandan business community in Kampala to explore new investment and commercial opportunities.
The business forum, organised by the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI) in collaboration with Türkiye's Ministry of Trade and the Türkiye Exporters Assembly (TİM), brought together companies from a wide range of Turkish industries for business-to-business meetings and policy discussions aimed at strengthening trade and investment ties.
The engagements focused on identifying market opportunities, building commercial partnerships and laying the groundwork for future joint ventures.
Speaking at the forum, Türkiye's Ambassador to Uganda, Fatih Ak, described the gathering as a reflection of the growing momentum in bilateral economic relations.
"Our bilateral trade volume, which stood at 75.1 million US dollars in 2024, reached 160.5 million US dollars in 2025," he said.
According to the ambassador, Türkiye exported goods worth $120 million to Uganda during the period, while imports from Uganda reached $40.5 million.
Untapped potential
Despite the sharp increase in trade, Ak said the partnership still holds significant untapped potential. He noted that Turkish companies have developed internationally recognised expertise in sectors that align closely with Uganda's development priorities, including agriculture, textiles, food processing, household appliances, consumer electronics, the automotive industry and pharmaceuticals.
"For Ugandan importers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, manufacturers and project developers, Türkiye is a dependable sourcing partner capable of meeting both large-scale industrial demand and specialised market requirements," he said.
Ak reaffirmed Ankara's commitment to deepening its long-term economic engagement with Uganda through increased trade, investment and industrial cooperation.
"As Uganda continues its impressive journey of industrialisation and economic transformation, Türkiye stands ready to be a trusted partner—not only as an investor and contractor, but also as a reliable supplier of high-quality products, advanced technologies and innovative industrial solutions," he said.
"Our vision is straightforward: to build stronger commercial bridges between Türkiye and Uganda that benefit both our economies."
Zeki Vural, Commercial Attaché at the Embassy of Türkiye in Uganda, told TRT Afrika that a delegation of 17 Turkish companies representing diverse sectors took part in the forum.
He said the sustained growth in Türkiye's exports to Uganda reflects the deepening economic relationship between the two countries and is expected to unlock further opportunities for trade, manufacturing and industrial cooperation in the years ahead.
