Forty-three people were killed in a terrorist attack in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Wednesday, the army said in a statement.
The attack took place from around 7 p.m. local time (1700 GMT) in Bafwakoa village, located in Mambasa territory, Ituri province, officials earlier told Reuters.
The Congolese military attributed the attack to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a terrorist group active in eastern DR Congo.
Forty-four houses were set on fire, the statement said.
Some victims were killed with machetes and others burned in their homes, and two people were abducted, said Christian Alimasi, a local customary official in Mambasa territory.
