Rwanda accused the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi of deliberately violating a ceasefire in eastern DRC in a statement on Wednesday, days after the signing of a peace agreement in Washington.

In a statement on X, the foreign ministry said recent violations "cannot be placed on Rwanda" and said "the Congolese Army (FARDC) and the Burundian Army (FDNB)... had been systematically bombing civilian villages close to the Rwandan border".

"These deliberate violations of recently negotiated agreements constitute serious obstacles to peace," the statement said.

Earlier Monday, Felix Tshisekedi, the president of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), said that Rwanda is "violating its commitments" to the Washington Accord, which both Kinshasa and Kigali signed in the United States last Thursday.

President Donald Trump witnessed the signing of the US-brokered peace deal, which is aimed at ending more than three decades of conflict in eastern DRC.

Both DRC and Rwanda expressed their willingness to adhere to the terms of the agreement, including ceasing armed fighting in the troubled eastern DRC, and implementing the disarmament of non-state forces, primarily the M23 rebel group.
