Iran has announced an end to its attacks on Israel, warning of a “crushing” response if Israeli attacks against Lebanon continue, as Israeli media reported Tel Aviv decided to halt strikes on Tehran at US President Donald Trump’s request.
"Following the aggressions and evils of the brutal Zionist regime in South Lebanon and the Dahiya region, which took place with the support of the criminal America, the powerful armed forces of Iran gave a painful response to this regime to support the oppressed people of Lebanon," the Khaatm al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said in a statement carried by the semi-official news agency Tasnim on Monday.
Israel and its supporters "should have learned" lessons from Tehran's response, the military added.
"On this basis, the cessation of armed forces operations is announced.”
It, however, warned that “if the aggressions and evils continue, including in southern Lebanon, much more severe and crushing measures will be on the way.”
Israel is stopping its strikes on Iran at US President Trump’s request, Israeli Channel 12 reported, citing a senior Israeli official.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the US president also spoke over the phone earlier.
Israel's Channel 13 said the call took place shortly before Iran announced the suspension of its attacks on Israel if Tel Aviv halted its strikes.
Talks still active
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran remained at the negotiating table after halting attacks on Israel following the first exchange of fire since the April truce.
"Diplomacy and defence are the two wings of national power; we have neither left the battlefield nor the negotiating table," Pezeshkian said in a post on X, adding that Tehran "will not retreat in the face of any threat".
Tensions escalated on Sunday, when Israel bombed the Lebanese capital, Beirut, despite an ongoing ceasefire, prompting Iran to launch missiles at northern Israel in retaliation, with Israel launching several waves of air strikes against Iran.
Meanwhile, Israeli newspaper Israeli Hayom reported that Tel Aviv and Washington sent a message to Tehran stating that no further attacks will be launched by Israel if Iran does not resume firing.
In a post on his Truth Social platform early Monday, US President Donald Trump called on Israel and Iran to stop fighting "immediately" in the wake of tit-for-tat air strikes.
