Somalia has held a graduation ceremony for officers, non-commissioned officers, and units of the Somali National Armed Forces Commandos, who have completed training courses at the Somali Military Academy in Turksom in Mogadishu.
The event, which took place on Saturday, was presided over by Somalia’s Minister of Defence Ahmed Moallim Fiqi and also had Second Deputy Prime Minister Jibril Abdirashid Haji, the Commander of the Somali National Army Land Forces, Brigadier General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, and other senior officials in attendance.
Authorities said the training is another milestone in Somalia’s efforts to strengthen the professionalism, skills, and operational capacity of the Somali Armed Forces as part of its broader commitment to building a capable, disciplined, and unified national army.

Minister Fiqi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to training, modernising, and equipping the Somali National Armed Forces as it fights to eliminate terrorist groups and safeguard the nation’s sovereignty.
Second Deputy PM Abdi added that the government remains committed to building a strong national army that ensures the country's security and defeats Al Shabaab terrorists.
Ties between Türkiye and Somalia have been growing in the last two decades as Ankara boosts its win-win relations with African countries.
The Somali Military Academy in Turksom, which started working in 2017, was established to train members of the Somali army as part of bilateral ties towards ensuring peace, security and stability of Somalia. It has trained thousands of Somali military officers since then.
