Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu will depart the capital Abuja on Monday, January 26, 2026, for a state visit to Türkiye, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two friendly nations.
Bilateral talks between Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his visiting counterpart, President Tinubu, will focus on security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation.
Tinubu's trip to Türkiye follows the official visit to Nigeria by President Erdogan from October 19 to 20, 2021.
During President Tinubu's upcoming visit, both countries will hold strategic political and diplomatic engagements centred on shared values and mutual interests in finance, communication, trade and investment, Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser to President Tinubu, said in a statement on Sunday.
Business forum
High-level meetings between senior officials of the two nations are also scheduled as part of the programme.
The agenda also includes the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering areas such as scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military cooperation and protocol.
A Nigeria–Türkiye business forum will be convened on the sidelines of the visit, bringing together investors from both countries to explore new opportunities for collaboration and investment.
Members of President Tinubu's entourage participating in the bilateral discussions include Nigeria's Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar; Attorney-General and Justice Minister, Prince Lateef Fagbemi; Defence Minister, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and the chairperson of Parliamentary Committee on Defence, Jimi Benson.
Others in the delegation
Others are Women Affairs Minister, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; Interior Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Culture and Creative Economy Minister, Hannatu Musawa; the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the state visit to Türkiye, Onanuga said.
