The Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Army, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commended the bravery, resilience, and dedication of the soldiers.

Nigeria’s army headquarters has dismissed what it termed as “fake narratives” circulating on online platforms alleging the abduction of a Brigade Commander.

The military urged the public to disregard such claims, reaffirming that the commander was safe.

Troops on a routine patrol to secure communities around Wajiroko in the Azir–Multe general area of Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State, came under heavy fire from terrorists on Friday while returning from a mission around the fringes of the Sambisa Forest.

The patrol team, led by the Commander of 25 Brigade, Brigadier General M. Uba, included soldiers of the brigade as well as members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

Despite the intensity of the ambush, the troops reportedly fought back with superior firepower, breaking through the attack and forcing the terrorists to retreat in disarray, abandoning their mission.

However, the army confirmed that two soldiers and two CJTF members were killed during the encounter.

Describing them as “brave” and “heroic,” the army high command extended condolences to the families and associates of the fallen personnel, praising their sacrifice in service to the nation.

In a statement, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, paid tribute to the troops for what he called their “uncommon bravery, resilience, and sacrifice,” noting that they continue to operate in one of the country’s most dangerous theatres of conflict.

“Their unflinching commitment, even in the face of grave danger, remains a powerful reminder of the daily sacrifices being made by our gallant service men and women to keep Nigeria safe,” the military chief said.

The Nigerian army called for continued public support and prayers for the troops as operations against terrorist groups persist across the region.
