YTB documents Africa's transformative year in yearbook
Turks Abroad and Related Communities unveiled the Africa Yearbook 2024 to show key developments across the African continent
The Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) has released the Africa Yearbook 2024, the latest edition of its annual publication examining developments across the African continent.
According to a YTB statement, the Africa Yearbook 2024 stands as Türkiye’s comprehensive annual reference work on Africa, offering a systematic overview of key political, economic, military, technological, environmental, and social developments.
The yearbook, first published in 2022 and available in both Turkish and English, highlights positive agendas on the continent, including achievements in education, culture, the arts, sports, cinema, and music.
YTB says this year’s edition consists of five main sections—Politics, Economy, Society and Environment; Türkiye-Africa Relations; Global and Regional Actors’ Relations with Africa; Culture, Arts, Education and Sports; and Publications on Africa.
Global impact
The yearbook also covers events that have had a wide impact worldwide, such as the resolution of the conflict between Somalia and Ethiopia through Turkish mediation in 2024 and the genocide case filed against Israel by the Republic of South Africa, in individual articles.
In total, it contains 12 institutional articles and contributions from 53 authors, amounting to 66 articles and 9 book reviews. The publication opens with a foreword written by Emine Erdoğan, the first lady of Türkiye.
YTB adds the yearbook seeks to enable a multifaceted and strategic assessment of Türkiye-Africa relations.
Contributors include major national institutions such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defense, the Presidency of Religious Affairs, the Yunus Emre Institute (YEE), the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), the Maarif Foundation, the Turkish Red Crescent, Anadolu Agency, Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK), and Turkish Airlines.
In addition to sectoral analyses, the publication reflects on global events with significant implications for Africa. These include Türkiye’s mediation efforts that helped resolve tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia in 2024, as well as the genocide case brought by South Africa against Israel.
