Egypt’s tourism sector reached a historic high in 2025, welcoming nearly 19 million visitors—an increase of 21% compared with the previous year, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy described the figures as a major achievement, saying they reflect Egypt’s strong competitive position in the global tourism market. He attributed the surge to sustained security and stability, a clear strategic vision, and an integrated approach that promotes the country’s diverse tourism offerings while steadily improving service quality.

Major airports, including Cairo, Hurghada, Sharm El-Sheikh, and Marsa Alam, accounted for the bulk of arrivals, highlighting the broad geographic spread of Egypt’s tourism hubs and the impact of continued investment in airport modernisation and tourism infrastructure, according to Fathy, published by Egypt’s State Information Service.

Visits to archaeological sites and museums across the country also rose sharply. Egypt recorded 18.6 million foreign visitors to heritage sites in 2025—excluding the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation and the Grand Egyptian Museum—marking a 33.5% increase from 2024.

Fast-growing destinations

Charter flight activity grew by 32 percent during the year, with New Alamein City emerging as a standout performer after recording a 450 percent surge in charter flights, making it one of Egypt’s fastest-growing international tourism destinations.

Fathy said the strong performance of New Alamein City and the North Coast underscores the success of state efforts to diversify tourism products, expand beach, leisure, and cultural tourism, and offer integrated travel experiences.

In total, tourist flights operated from 193 cities worldwide to Egyptian destinations in 2025, reflecting expanding global air connectivity and rising international demand.

Looking ahead, the ministry said it aims to build on the record performance through sustainable tourism growth that supports the national economy and further strengthens Egypt’s position as a leading global tourism destination.
