Nigeria is currently pumping 1.71 million barrels of oil a day, NNPC Limited's chief, Bashir Ojulari, said on Tuesday, including record output of 365,000 bpd from the state oil firm's exploration and production unit.

Speaking at an oil conference in Abuja, Ojulari said NNPC remained on track to raise national output to 2 million bpd and had met all joint-venture cash-call obligations in 2025 and the first half of 2026.

The gains come as Nigeria seeks to reverse years of declining output.

Ojulari attributed the output recovery to improved operations at five export terminals, which averaged 98% availability between April 2025 and May 2026, compared with disruptions at several facilities in 2022. Condensate production stands at about 900,000 bpd.

Gas output also increases

Gas output reached 7.5 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd), helped by the completion of the River Niger crossing on the key Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipeline and the startup of the ANOH gas plant, he said.

NNPC also signed gas sales agreements covering 1.29 bcfd for LNG exports and 750 million bcfd for domestic users, including the Dangote refinery, Ojulari said.
