Ghana's Foreign Ministry says two Ghanaian nationals were injured in a drone incident near Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday.

The Ghanaian government condemned the incident and urged its citizens in the region to remain vigilant, said a statement issued in Accra, Ghana's capital.

The ministry said the victims sustained injuries when two drones fell in the vicinity of the airport. Officials said the injuries are not life-threatening, and the victims are expected to recover soon.

Authorities in Dubai confirmed that four people were injured in the incident, including the two Ghanaians, a Bangladeshi who sustained minor injuries, and an Indian national who was moderately injured.

Drone and missile attacks

Dubai’s media office said the drones had been launched from Iran but confirmed that air traffic at the airport continued to operate normally despite the incident.

The attack comes amid escalating hostilities in the Middle East involving Iran and its regional adversaries. UAE authorities say the country’s air defence systems have detected 1,475 drones launched from Iran since the start of the conflict on February 28, intercepting 1,385 of them.

Tensions gripped the Middle East after Israel and the US launched joint attacks on Iran on February 28 and have so far killed more than 1,200 people, including Ali Khamenei, the country's former supreme leader, and more than 150 schoolgirls.

Tehran retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
