Somalia's federal cabinet has approved the National Anti-Corruption Strategy for 2026–2030, marking what officials described as a significant step towards strengthening transparency, accountability, and good governance.
State Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs Ilyas Sheikh Omar welcomed the cabinet's endorsement of the strategy, describing the decision as a historic milestone in advancing institutional integrity.
Briefing the cabinet, the minister said the strategy would guide efforts to prevent, detect, and combat corruption across government institutions.
He said the five-year strategy emphasises policy coordination, stronger oversight, and institutional accountability.
Addressing governance challenges
The minister thanked the federal cabinet for approving the strategy and praised government institutions and stakeholders who contributed to its development, describing their efforts as crucial to building a more accountable public sector.
He said the strategy represents an important step towards building a government that serves the interests of the Somali people while laying the foundation for stronger governance and greater public trust.
The strategy comes as Somalia continues to implement measures aimed at addressing governance challenges.
