Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will host a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Ankara on October 29 2026.
The meeting will be hosted as part of the organisation’s 13th summit, scheduled for October 29-30.
The meeting will bring OTS foreign ministers together for the fifth time this year, following one regular and four informal council meetings.
Ministers are expected to discuss cooperation within the organisation and efforts to strengthen its institutional structure. Several administrative and financial documents related to the organisation’s functioning are also expected to be approved.
In addition, Fidan is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts on the sidelines of the meeting.
In his address, Fidan is expected to highlight the strengthening of political dialogue and joint action among Turkic states, as well as efforts to turn shared history, language, culture and fraternal ties into concrete cooperation.
He is also expected to outline Türkiye’s priorities during its OTS chairmanship, including strengthening the organisation’s institutional capacity, developing the Secretariat’s human and financial resources, and improving coordination among Turkic cooperation organisations.
Fidan is expected to emphasise the importance of translating economic and strategic cooperation into tangible outcomes, particularly in energy, trade, investment, digital transformation and defence industry.
He is also expected to underline the importance of strengthening the Trans-Caspian Middle Corridor to improve connectivity between Asia and Europe and enhance economic resilience.
The foreign minister is expected to draw attention to developments in Afghanistan and their implications for regional security, stability and connectivity, calling for greater consultation and coordination among OTS member and observer states.
The OTS was established as the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States under the Nakhchivan Agreement, signed on October 3 2009, by Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Its name was changed to the Organization of Turkic States at the Istanbul summit in 2021.
