2027: INEC don register 3.4 million new voters for Nigeria

Di Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) don get over 3.4 million new voters for di ongoing second phase of di Continuous Voter Registration exercise across Nigeria.

According to di commission’s week 13 update wey dem release on Wednesday for Abuja, total of 3,441,121 registrations don finish as of April 3, and dis one include online pre-registration and physical registration for INEC offices.

INEC tok say 2,068,384 citizens complete dia registration online, while 1,372,737 oda people register physically for di designated centres across di nation.

State-by-state numbers show say Jigawa get di highest number of new registrants with 201,047, wey be 5.84 per cent of di total.

Lagos follow with 181,095, while Kano come third with 177,681 registrations.

Youth participation still carry di most weight, with citizens wey be between 18 and 34 years old forming 2,354,768 registrants, wey be 68.43 per cent of di total figure.

Gender breakdown show say women turn out more, with females getting 1,922,143 registrations (55.86 per cent), compared to men wey get 1,518,978 (44.14 per cent).

For di kind work dem dey do, students form di biggest group of new voters with 1,235,931, wey be 35.92 per cent.

Dem follow by people wey dey do business with 701,912 (20.40 per cent), and people wey dey farm and fish with 615,967 (18.28 per cent).

INEC also tok say 48,330 Persons with Disabilities register for dat period.

Di commission note say dis numbers no be final yet, as e be “preliminary figure wey fit change after data clean-up for di period wey citizens fit complain or object, and after dem don use di Automated Biometric Identification System.”

Dem further tok say voter registration still dey suspended for Federal Capital Territory according to Section 9(6) of di Electoral Act 2022, sake of di Area Council Election wey hold on February 21.

INEC urge all Nigerians wey qualify but never register to go dia official website to complete dia registration before di deadline.
