Nigeria Police Force don pay N2.3bn as insurance and welfare money to 2,971 families and next-of-kin of police officers wey die for service.

Di Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, give di cheques to di beneficiaries on Thursday for Abuja.

According to am, di beneficiaries cover di 2017/2018, 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023 and 2024/2025 insurance years.

Disu say di payment na exactly N2,317,177,094 and e include money wey dem recover from insurance companies after dem don pay small-small before.

E say dis money na wetin dem suppose give, because of di sacrifice of police officers wey lose their lives while dey do their work.

“Today, I dey happy to give dis benefits to 2,971 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of dead police officers, wey total N2,317,177,094.00.

“Apart from di money wey dey inside dis cheques, dis exercise carry important message: Nigeria Police Force no go abandon di families of those wey give their lives for our service,” Disu talk.

E say di security situation still dey hard, and e note say police don lose many people for attacks and operations across Nigeria.

E remember officers wey die for Buni-Yadi, Yobe State; members of di Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit wey die during rescue mission for Zamfara State; and 10 officers wey dem ambush and kill for operation for Kebbi State.

“Their courage dey remind us of wetin policing cost and di price wey our people sometimes pay to protect lives and property of others.

“Their families still carry di biggest pain of their absence, and we must never forget dat one,” e talk.

Di IGP show sympathy to di families of di dead officers, and e talk say although di money no fit replace their loved ones, e represent di responsibility wey police get to dem.

“No amount of money fit replace di person wey you don lose. But dis payments show di responsibility wey we get to una and e show our appreciation for di sacrifice wey your loved ones make,” e talk.

Disu urge di beneficiaries to use di money well, especially for di education and welfare of di children and people wey dem leave behind.
