Nigeria don call on di International Oil Companies (IOCs) wey dey work for Eastern Obolo, Akwa Ibom State, make dem join hand to end poverty and suffering for di area.
Di Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, talk say e pain am to see how bad di roads be, how people no get better livelihood, and how dem dey live poor life, even as oil companies dey do work for di area.
While e dey visit Iko, Okoroette, Elile and oda communities and stakeholders for di oil area, wey dem do wit International Alert Nigeria, Doro talk say through di One Humanitarian, One Poverty Response System (HOPRS), di ministry go continue to work wit Akwa Ibom State Government, local leaders, and evribody wey wan help, to end poverty for Eastern Obolo.
E explain say di visit na part of di work dem dey do to strengthen collaboration, check wetin communities need, and make sure development reach evribody. E add say di people need direct support wey go give dem skills training for di youths, clean water to drink, and classrooms for di pikin dem to learn.
“Di companies wey dey work for dis area don be neighbours to dis community for many years. Dem don take from dis land, and dem don build dia success on ground wey Eastern Obolo share wit dem. I no dey talk dis as accusation — I dey talk am because true neighbours dey care for one anoda.
“I believe say responsible businesses wey dey work here no dey ignore di pikin dem wey I meet today, and I believe say dem go wish to be remembered not just as companies wey operate for Eastern Obolo, but as companies wey help Eastern Obolo rise.
“Dis na my appeal: make dis be di time wey we stop to treat corporate social responsibility as just paper work, and make we begin to treat am as real promise wey dem suppose keep to real families.”
