Nigerian government through di Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, plan to wheel 6,000 megawatts of electricity before December.

Tegbe announce dis one yesterday for Lagos while he dey commission two new 100 megavolt-amperes, 132/33 kilovolt power transformers for Ijora Transmission Substation.

Di minister also talk say di government plan to commission 20 transmission projects before di end of di year as part of efforts to strengthen di nation's electricity infrastructure and improve di national grid capacity to evacuate available generation.

"Make I put am for record say di objective of dis commitment no be just to generate more megawatts. Di objective na to create one power system wey fit reliably deliver electricity to where dem need am, when dem need am, and at quality and cost wey go support economic activity," he talk.

Di target dey come as new investments dey enter di transmission segment, with Tegbe stressing say to increase generation alone no go solve Nigeria's electricity challenges unless di transmission network fit reliably move available power to consumers.

Tegbe later commission di two 100 MVA, 132/33 kV transformers and di upgraded facilities wey follow, and he dedicate di project to di people of Lagos and businesses and industries wey dey operate for di area.

Before dat one, di minister unveil di 2×60 MVA, 132/33 kV GIS substation for Apapa Road, Lagos. Di project na Japan International Cooperation Agency fund am.

"Dis one na my second transmission project commissioning today, and all of us agree say before di end of di year, we suppose commission 20. Di most important thing na to fit wheel comfortably, 6,000 megawatts before December. Dat one go happen?" he ask.

Wey dey speak about di importance of di Ijora upgrade, Tegbe talk say di substation dey inside one of Lagos important economic corridors, wey dey serve industries, ports, commercial centres and communities.

He talk say di original Ijora substation get three 30 MVA transformers with combined installed capacity of 90 MVA, wey don become small as population, commercial activities and industrial operations dey increase.
