Na about 30 students and one teacher from Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Epe Garage for Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, dem rush go hospital yesterday after some chemical smell wey dem no know cause panic and scatter school activities right after morning assembly.
Di Vice Principal, Mrs Adeola Borogun, explain say wetin happen no be gas explosion but some strange chemical smell wey dem detect for school compound, wey make dem quickly respond to di emergency.
She tok say: “Many students start to dey vomit and faint, wey force di school management to call ambulance from General Hospital, Ijebu Ode.”
As dem confirm di matter, di Chief Medical Director (CMD) of di hospital, Dr Banjo Adeoye, tok say dem bring 30 students and one teacher for treatment.
He add say most of di affected pipo dey stable, and note say dem never find out di exact chemical wey cause di problem.
For response, di Permanent Secretary of Ogun State Ministry of Environment, Dr (Mrs) Kafayat Lawal, tok say dia officers move fast as dem receive distress call.
She note say before dem reach di place, di situation don already dey under control, and after dat, di team go hospital go check di condition of di victims.
Dr Lawal add say dem don send environmental officers to do thorough check and analysis of di air quality inside di school environment to know where di smell come from.
Di Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Council, Dare Alebiosu, wey visit di hospital, confirm say all di students wey dem affect dey stable and nobody die.
He describe di situation as calm and under control, and tell parents and residents say dem go do full investigation to find out wetin really cause di incident.
