Armed men kill 12 people and carry women and children for one village for Nigeria's northwest Sokoto state during night attack, according to witnesses.

Di gunmen enter Lajinge village around 11pm on Saturday and dey attack residents until about 3am on Sunday, locals talk.

Di region don dey see plenty attacks from heavily armed gangs wey dem dey call bandits, wey dey raid villages, kidnap people for ransom, and dey steal animals.

"Dem kill at least 12 people, wound four others, carry women and children, and also rustle plenty livestock," resident Auwal Hassan tell Reuters for phone.

Police dey investigate and go give update later, Sokoto force spokesperson Ahmed Rufai talk.

Dis attack happen one week after bandits kill at least 24 farmers for nearby Zamfara state.
