Nigeria Head of State Bola Ahmed Tinubu don promise say e go deepen cooperation with Türkiye for security and trade, and say dem dey work together to fight instability and promote economic growth.

'You fit bet on me say I go dey with una for democracy, freedom, and prosperity,' Tinubu tell Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for joint news conference for Ankara on Tuesday.

For him first official visit to Türkiye, Tinubu talk say him and Erdogan discuss matters wey concern both countries, like how dem fit expand trade ties, boost business opportunities, and build inclusive economy wey go empower people wey ready to learn and work.

E stress the importance of economic reforms wey go include vulnerable people and at the same time help promote peace and stability, especially for Africa.

Nine important agreements

The Nigerian leader describe Erdogan commitment to democracy, freedom and development as thing wey deserve commendation, especially because of how Türkiye dey support vulnerable communities around the world.

E add say Türkiye efforts for Somalia don dey well noted.

Nine agreements dem sign between Türkiye and Nigeria for the presence of Presidents Erdogan and Tinubu after bilateral and delegation-level talks.

The agreements cover many sectors, including cooperation on military training, diaspora policy, media and communication, higher education, halal accreditation, diplomatic training, and social and women affairs.

Biggest trading partner

Türkiye and Nigeria don maintain diplomatic relations since November 9, 1960.

Bilateral trade volume between the two countries reach $688.4 million for the first 11 months of 2025. If dem add energy trade, Nigeria become Türkiye largest trading partner for Sub-Saharan Africa in 2025.

Agreements on military training, defence and security don strengthen strategic ties, and the Nigerian Air Force don buy drones plus six ATAK T129 attack helicopters from Türkiye.

Turkish companies don long dey operate for Nigeria construction, energy, textile and manufacturing sectors. Dem dey export things like iron, steel, machinery and food, while dem dey import crude oil and agricultural products.

Fight against terrorism
