Africa richest man and Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, don warn say di ongoing Middle East crisis fit force Nigeria and oda African countries to adopt COVID-era work-from-home restrictions if di conflict no reduce.
Dangote give di warning on Monday afta meeting with President Bola Tinubu for im Ikoyi residence for Lagos, as e express serious concern about di economic impact of oil price volatility on di continent wey already dey burdened by debt.
Di industrialist talk, “If dis thing no reduce, you know, normally we for Africa, we no get any reserves in terms of savings.
“And so, people normally go out dey look for money for di next day or even for di same day. Some of dem, if dem no work dat day, dem no go chop.”
E cite Indonesia’s response to energy crisis pressures, where authorities ask workers to work only four days a week and dey consider full work-from-home arrangements like di COVID-19 pandemic.
“For some countries today wetin dem do, dem ask everybody to work from home because dem no fit afford am.
“I think Indonesians also only dey go work four days a week. And dem go look at di situation if e no improve, dem go ask everybody make dem no go work again.
“We go do like dat time of COVID, where people go work from home,” Dangote talk.
Di billionaire businessman warn say Africa go pay disproportionate price for crisis wey di continent no get any hand for.
“E no be only energy. Some people go try take chance and say, ‘Ah, dis na opportunity. So, make I take make money.’
“So, if dis thing no reduce, e go continue dey go up and up and up, and governments no really fit add to salaries.
“So, people go really, really feel di pinch,” e talk.
Dangote emphasize say di crisis go hit hardest at ordinary Africans wey dey run small businesses, especially barbers, bread sellers, and industries wey depend on generators for power.
“People wey dey barb, people wey dey bake bread, people wey get industries, wey get to pay for dema own generators, you know, I mean, you fit see wetin dey happen,” e talk.
E call for urgent prayers and international intervention to end di conflict.
