According to figures wey di Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) release for dia 2025-2026 Annual Report and Accounts, Nigeria allocation go drop by 50.2 percent to £68 million for di 2028-2029 financial year, down from £136.62 million for 2025-2026 under new three-year plan.

Di cut na part of big overhaul wey go affect all 34 African countries, with some of dem facing reductions wey reach as high as 92.5 percent.

UK cite defence spending and 'modernised partnerships'

Di Labour government talk say dia target na to reduce di Official Development Assistance (ODA) budget to 0.3 percent of Gross National Income by 2027, down from 0.7 percent, to fund wetin dem call "necessary increase in spending on defence."

FCDO for one statement inside di Annual Report talk say: "Di Department's ODA spending plans for 2026–29 reflect di trajectory of dis reduction and how di UK dey modernise im approach to development, in line with di Foreign Secretary's 19 March 2026 Written Ministerial Statement (HCWS1425) and Oral Statement to di House.

"Setting three years of allocations provide di Department with di predictability wey dem need to effectively manage di transition to 0.3 percent of GNI. All future plans dey subject to revision as, by im nature, di Department's work dey dynamic.

"Programme allocations dey continually reviewed to respond to changing global needs, including humanitarian crises and oda ODA allocation decisions."

Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, talk say di cuts follow difficult decisions but she insist say Britain no dey "walk away from our values."
