About 37 pipo don die afta dem breathe smoke from petroleum product for one jetty wey dey Okrika Local Government Area for Rivers State.


The thing happen on Thursday for Okari Jetty wey dey Okrika Mainland area, where youths from Okrika and oda communities near there gada to load petroleum product from one place wey dem dey take oil illegally.


Many oda pipo still miss afta the incident, wey happen for this community wey near water.
One person from the community tell our reporter say more than 100 pipo don rush the jetty with local boats while one vessel dey anchor for riverside to load petroleum products.

The person say trouble start when the youths dey load the product, as strong smell suddenly fill the air, make plenty of dem collapse.


“Many of dem fall inside river, while oda pipo wey manage run comot get serious breathing problems and dey treat for hospital.


“As I dey talk to you now, over 37 bodies dem don identify as Okrika people, while six oda pipo dem still never know who dem be and many still dey miss,” the person wey no want mention im name talk.


The Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre also confirm the incident, say their network of youth volunteers and human rights defenders for Niger Delta don report say no be less than 37 pipo wey dem suspect dey involve for illegal oil activities die afta dem breathe wetin dem dey call “Indorama fuel.”


The Executive Director of YEAC-Nigeria, Dr Fyneface Dumnamene, talk for one statement say the thing happen around midnight on Thursday for Okari Jetty.
“According to the report, no be less than 37 pipo wey dem suspect be oil thieves die afta dem breathe wetin dem dey call ‘Indorama Fuel.’


“Many oda pipo still miss. The thing happen during illegal loading of the product into one ship at one tapping point,” im talk.


Dumnamene say the victims don connect pipe to one tapping point on pipeline wey dey carry petroleum products from Indorama Eleme Petrochemical through Port Harcourt Refinery to vessels wey dey come every two weeks to load products for export.


Im add say the youths breathe the product while vessel dey load and dem dey load at the same time into their boats from the illegal tapping point.


“This one make no be less than 37 pipo die. Many still miss, and some corpses dem see dey float for river but dem still never recover dem,” im talk.


Dumnamene call on National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency to quickly do joint investigation visit to the place where the thing happen.
