For di exercise wey start on Monday and go continue till Thursday, about 600 people go dey face trial, according to di Attorney General of di Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).
From as early as 7am on Monday, heavy security people wey carry big guns barricade all di entrances to di Federal High Court headquarters, and dem dey control who go enter di court.
Dem dey do di proceedings at di same time for about eleven courts wey dem choose for di exercise.
Wen Fagbemi talk afta Monday exercise, e say di ongoing prosecution of dose wey dem arrest for terrorism-related offences show say di Federal Government serious to tackle terrorism.
Di AGF say dis current exercise na di fourth phase of terrorism-related prosecutions under dis present government, and e make clear say dem no go tolerate any kind of terrorism.
E talk say, “Di message clear, direct, and straightforward. Dis present government no dey take terrorism matter as small thing. Dat na why una dey see ongoing trials.
“Make everybody know say dem no go tolerate terrorism for any form or shape. We go fight with all our strength to make sure Nigeria become safe place for everybody.”
Wen e dey give breakdown of di suspects involved, Fagbemi say about 490 suspects dem bring to court on di first day, while anoda 84 suspects go appear for court di next day.
Fagbemi add say dis number no include 102 cases wey carry over from di previous phase.
E talk say, “For total, we get over 600 suspects wey we go handle for dis phase,” and e talk say e believe say dem go handle di cases fast-fast, because dem don put ten judges wey go focus only on terrorism trials.
“If una observe, we get about ten judges wey dem dedicate to dis case alone, and dem no dey handle any oda matter except terrorism cases. Na total dedication to di trial of terrorism cases.”
Di AGF say di judges wey dey participate don promise say dem go do di work fast, but dem go still follow all di necessary legal rules and make sure say dem dey monitor di cases well-well.
