The Nigerian Super Eagles have labelled their AFCON Round of 16 victory over Mozambique a “solid win” after cruising into the quarter finals with a dominant display.

Posting on X, the team described the performance as “a solid W under the rain” following a comprehensive 4–0 win that never looked in doubt.

Nigeria booked their place in the last eight of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 with ease on Monday night, controlling the match from start to finish. The Super Eagles will now face either Algeria or DR Congo, with that quarterfinal pairing to be decided on Tuesday.

Nigeria set the tone early, with Victor Osimhen having a second-minute goal ruled out for offside after a VAR review.

Multiple strike

The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Ademola Lookman finished clinically, before Osimhen doubled the lead five minutes later with a composed strike inside the box. Nigeria went into the break firmly in control.

There was no drop in intensity after half-time. Lookman turned provider in the 47th minute, teeing up Osimhen to complete his brace and effectively put the game beyond Mozambique.

Mozambique failed to gain any momentum, with Geny Catamo well contained by a disciplined Nigerian defence led by Calvin Bassey. Akor Adams added a fourth in the 70th minute, capping a commanding performance in which he also provided two assists.

The win extends Nigeria’s perfect run to four straight victories at the tournament, while Mozambique’s campaign comes to an end as the Super Eagles march on with growing confidence.
