Four pupils were killed in a stabbing attack at a school in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, police said on Thursday, adding that a suspect has been arrested.
The incident occurred at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program school in Makindye Division, according to the Uganda Police Force.
“We confirm a tragic incident at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program school, in Makindye Division Kampala City where a male suspect brutally stabbed and killed four juveniles. The suspect has been apprehended, and the motive behind the killings is still under investigation. Further details will be provided in due course,” police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said in a statement posted on X.
Local media reported that the attacker gained access to the school by disguising himself as a parent. The Daily Monitor newspaper said the man initially entered the school offices, where he briefly engaged with an administrator before carrying out the attack.
He then used a sharp object to assault an unspecified number of children, the report added.
Police said investigations are ongoing and that more details will be released as they become available.
