South Africa’s Under 20 side, Amajita, stormed to their biggest-ever FIFA U-20 World Cup victory with a resounding 5–0 triumph over New Caledonia in their second Group E clash on Thursday evening.

The win was only their second in tournament history, following a 2–0 success against Honduras in 2009.

Siwelele FC striker Siviwe Magidigidi stole the show with a brace, while Siviwe Nkwali, Shakeel April, and Lazola Maku all added their names to the scoresheet.

Coach Raymond Mdaka’s decision to bring in Mfundo Vilakazi and Magidigidi paid dividends as South Africa quickly took control.

After Magidigidi’s early cross struck the bar, Nkwali broke the deadlock in the 25th minute with a powerful header from Langelihle Phili’s delivery.

April doubled the advantage from the penalty spot nine minutes later, before Magidigidi made it 3–0 on the stroke of halftime. He struck again seven minutes into the second half, finishing off Vilakazi’s clever assist.

The game was sealed in the 80th minute when Maku unleashed a long-range shot, rounding off a historic night for Amajita.

Despite the emphatic scoreline, South Africa sit third in Group E on three points, level with France, who lost 3–0 to the USA earlier. However, the result lifted Amajita to the top of the best third-placed teams table.

Their final group match comes on Sunday, 5 October, against the USA at Estadio El Teniente.
