Di Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, on Tuesday call on di Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to tackle di growing cases of vandalism and energy theft for di power sector.

Tegbe also lament say some companies wey get access to electricity no dey pay their bills, talk say di country dey lose billions of naira every year as a result.

Di minister make di call when he pay courtesy visit to di EFCC headquarters for Abuja.

Electricity distribution companies (DisCos) don repeatedly raise concern over di destruction of electricity poles, theft of cables and other critical power infrastructure.

Tegbe talk say di Ministry of Power no get di statutory powers to prosecute offenders wey dey involved for vandalism and energy theft.

Di minister talk say to tackle di problem, e require stronger collaboration among relevant government agencies to protect power infrastructure and ensure say consumers wey receive electricity dey pay for di service.

He also call for closer cooperation between di ministry and di EFCC to strengthen enforcement and reduce financial losses for di sector.

Di minister declare say he dey fully in support of di commission steps in investigating and prosecuting individuals and entities wey dey involved for economic crimes wey dey undermine di power sector.

Reacting to di Minister demand, Olukoyede describe vandalism and energy theft as revenue fraud and "major concerns and acts of economic sabotage", as he pledge di commission collaboration with di ministry.

He also pledge to work with di ministry by instituting Fraud Risk Assessment and Control on all their projects.
