The 95th General Assembly of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) wey happen for Geneva full debate about Israel place for the Eurovision Song Contest, as members dey discuss new rules for participation and the status of Israel public broadcaster KAN for 2026.

Before dem start to vote, members deliver statements on whether KAN participation suppose continue as Israel dey wage devastating genocide for Gaza.

As one of EBU founding members, TRT, the parent organisation of TRT World, talk say the situation for Gaza make Israel participation no compatible with Eurovision values.

"Like everybody for this hall, we for TRT don witness persecution wey don dey go on for decades and a genocide wey dey unfold before the world eyes," the delegation talk.

"Since the so-called ceasefire begin, dozens of children don die and aid still no fit reach Gaza safely. More than 270 journalists don die by Israel. Our stance clear: allowing KAN to participate neither appropriate nor compatible with the values of this contest."

Plenty other countries dey boycott

Ireland's RTÉ echo the same position, dem talk: "Given the horrific loss of life in Gaza and the ongoing humanitarian crisis, we believe say e go unconscionable to participate if Israel's KAN still dey the competition."

When the Israeli broadcaster take the floor, TRT representatives comot from the hall as protest.

TRT and some other members object to the vote wey dem hold openly and dem demand say make dem do secret ballot.

At the end, the General Assembly approve new participation rules but decide not to hold special vote specifically on Israel inclusion.

German and Austrian members show open support for KAN, while broadcasters from Spain, Slovenia, Ireland and the Netherlands announce after the vote say dem go boycott Eurovision 2026.

The dispute dey happen as Israel war for Gaza still dey continue despite US-brokered ceasefire, with Palestinian casualties dey increase and international criticism dey widen across cultural, political and media institutions.
