Muslims across Africa are celebrating Eid al-Fitr, the festival which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, which started on Friday morning.
The day was marked across the continent with prayers and festivities that include family visits, gatherings, outings and new clothes.
African leaders also took to social media to celebrate the holiday and send good wishes to Muslim communities in their respective countries.
Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni wrote on X social media: “This religious foundation of Ramadan should cultivate the necessary discipline and strength for you to continue working hard to create wealth and jobs for your families.”
Kenya’s President William Ruto said: “Eid is a celebration of these virtues: faith, unity, and gratitude. As we rejoice, let us remember the less fortunate and share kindness so all may partake in its blessings.”
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed also posted: “The blessings of the holiday are experienced by those who observed Ramadan and Spiritual rewards are closely tied to individual commitment and moral conduct.”
