Kenya and Rwanda have joined other African nations, including Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, and Somalia, in condemning Israel's recent strike on Qatar's capital.

In a statement dated Thursday, September 11, Kenya's Foreign Ministry said: "The attack is not only a clear violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the State of Qatar, but also poses a serious threat to regional and international peace and security."

Nairobi added that: "This conduct violates international law, undermines the principles of peace and security that we must all uphold, and is incompatible with the United Nations 1970 Declaration of Principles of International Law concerning Friendly Relations and Cooperation among others."

In a separate but related statement on Thursday, Rwanda said: "The wanton trampling of foundational norms of interstate relations (by Israel) is dangerous, and is leading the world into a 'no-rules-based order' for which there is no contemporary incident."

'Senseless' escalation

Kigali further said: "The continued escalation is senseless, and yet the international community seems content to let it continue unchecked. The hypocrisy and complacency evident in such circumstances, especially the most powerful, leaves the world vulnerable to growing chaos and uncertainty."

Kigali and Nairobi's statements come after Nigeria earlier said it was underscoring "the primacy of respecting the sovereignty of all nations and adhering to international law, particularly in matters involving the use of force across borders."

Somalia, on the other hand, demanded that the UN Security Council take immediate measures to stop the repeated hostile acts by Israel and ensure civilians' protection.

On September 9, Israeli warplanes launched an airstrike on senior Hamas leaders in Doha in a new blow to efforts to reach a ceasefire deal in Gaza.

Deadly war on Palestine

Israeli media said the warplanes fired 12 missiles at the site.

Hamas confirmed that five of its members were killed in the strike, which Doha has strongly condemned.

Israel has killed more than 64,600 Palestinians in a brutal offensive in Gaza since October 2023.

The military campaign has devastated Gaza and pushed the territory's population into famine.

Calls have mounted for the international community to advocate for action against the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, who faces an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant.
