Polish authorities have received information about possible assassination attempts targeting Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Interior ministry spokesperson Karolina Galecka said on Sunday that the State Protection Service (SOP) had passed the information to the police.
The ministry ordered authorities to take action, and representatives of the police, SOP and the Internal Security Agency attended a meeting to discuss the threats.
“We are treating this matter as deadly serious,” Jacek Dobrzynski, spokesperson for the minister-coordinator of special services, told journalists afterwards.
He said there was “a strong likelihood that these threats could actually be carried out”.
‘Cult of violence’
“Month by month, year by year, more and more various threats and menacing messages reach the police, SOP, and the services concerning Poland and Poles,” Dobrzynski added.
Galecka had earlier written on X that the information concerned a possible assassination attempt against Tusk, as well as Kosiniak-Kamysz, who also serves as deputy prime minister.
Poland, a NATO and EU member, has been on high alert following multiple stabbing attacks over the past week, which Tusk on Thursday denounced as a “cult of violence”.
