Madagascar's president flees abroad amid protests
Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina has fled the country, Reuters reports, citing the opposition leader, a military source, and a foreign diplomat.
October 14, 2025

This is the second time in just over a month that young protesters have toppled a government, following the resignation of Nepal’s KP Sharma Oli.

Rajoelina said Monday he was sheltering in a “safe place” after an attempt on his life, ignoring calls to resign following escalating unrest that has forced him into hiding.

According to French public radio RFI, French President Emmanuel Macron allowed Rajoelina to board a French plane to an undisclosed location, “probably Dubai,” RFI reports.
