Kenyan President William Ruto denies backing Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has been locked in a brutal war with the Sudanese army since 2023. The RSF and its allies are accused by the UN of committing atrocities, particularly in Al Fasher, a city they captured recently.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, President Ruto said reported meetings of RSF in Nairobi, after which the group declared a parallel government earlier this year, were due to Kenya's ''democratic'' space.
