Sayid Mohamed Abdulle Hassan remains one of the most influential figures in Somali history. He founded the Dervish Movement to resist colonial powers who threatened the Somali society and Islam, uniting thousands in a struggle that lasted over two decades against British, Italian, and Ethiopian forces. Once dismissed as the “Mad Mullah,” he is today remembered as the Father of Somali Nationalism.
