President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria don send plenty requests for reform for the country judiciary to the Senate, as he ask make dem increase the number of judges for the top courts across the country.
For the Senate sitting on Tuesday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio read one letter from President Tinubu wey ask make dem amend the Court of Appeal Act to increase the number of judges from 70 to 110.
Akpabio talk say the step na to strengthen how the courts dey work and to reduce the backlog of cases wey dey pile up.
Also, President Tinubu put forward one bill wey dey ask make dem amend the Federal High Court Act to increase the number of judges from 70 to 90, from the original provision of 50.
He urge the Senate make dem quickly consider the bills wey he submit; those bills don already been sent to the Senate Committee on Laws and Business for review and further legislative action.
He also ask the Senate to confirm the appointment of Justice Oyewole Joseph Kayode as a Justice of Nigeria’s Supreme Court.
The Senate also receive one amended bill for the Court of Appeal wey propose to set up an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Centre to make handling of some court matters easier.
That bill sef dem refer go the Senate Committee on Laws and Business.
On another matter, the President send one request to amend 24 health-sector bills to address problems wey dey concern the number of members on some agency boards.
