Dr Temitope Ilori, Director-General for National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), talk so on Monday during one program wey dem do for World AIDS Day.
Dr Ilori talk say about 23,000 pikin wey dem suspect get HIV don get test to detect the virus before dem reach three months old.
"These numbers show how we dey try protect mothers and their children," she talk.
"But the testing coverage for pregnant women dey around 65%, and infant diagnosis dey about 56%. So still plenty work remain."
According to Dr Ilori, World AIDS Day na time to reflect, come together and renew commitment to continue the fight against HIV.
For the world, about 40.8 million people dey live with HIV, and around 1.3 million people get new infection in 2024.
However, over 29 million people now dey receive antiretroviral treatment, way show say progress dey because of global cooperation.
Nigeria, like many other countries, don face serious challenges these past years—from the COVID-19 pandemic to economic troubles and reduced donor support, Dr Ilori yan.
That na why dem choose the 2025 theme: "Address Challenges, Ensure Sustained Progress to End HIV in Nigeria."
"These challenges dey real, but dem never make us give up," Dr Ilori talk.
